Project reviews are a regular requirement, especially as projects falter or fail; however, an objective external review is hard to find. Our independent, expert analysis and strategic interventions remain unaffected by internal pressures, returning focus to the preservation of your project’s value, client assurance, and improved team morale.
Wintergarten’s project management professionals
- Conduct thorough project health checks to identify existing issues in a timely manner
- Identify risks that have the potential to further affect a project negatively, and develop practical mitigation plans
- Develop ongoing management strategies in accordance with your organisational culture and best practice
- Foster collaborative working relationships and support the ongoing development of your project management practitioners
- Lead the turnaround initiative, or mentor your project team through the recovery process
The first step in the recovery of troubled projects involves a comprehensive review. Using interviews, project plans, status reports and other project artifacts, we gather the information required to accurately compare the project’s intended goals with its current and expected progress. Our experts combine high-level strategic analysis with close attention to detail in order to determine which project controls are working and understand the reasons for poor performance.
Based on conversations with you and your key stakeholders, our project recovery specialists prepare a set of possible responses to the specific concerns raised. These responses fall in to one of four categories: Restart, Recover, Re-Scope or Retire. We work with you to select the most appropriate response, suggest changes or modifications, and take action.
With a potential solution to your troubled project in hand, we formulate a detailed plan to restart, recover, re-scope or retire the project, recommending changes to the people, process, structure and purpose of the project. Our consultants prioritise the resolution of critical issues where possible to create momentum, and in the case of systemic or highly complex problems, we develop an execution strategy (a plan for the plan) empowering the project team to progress resolution confidently and independently. We guide your teams throughout the initial stages of the response implementation, offering training and mentoring services as needed to promote ongoing capability development.
The final step is recovery closure, or the establishment of normal project operations. Once the Wintergarten team has transitioned the project over to the leadership you have selected, you may choose to have us monitor the project thereafter to ensure successful transition and continue building your internal capability.
